In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child on 11th October 2024, Akurase Mpuntuo Foundation, together with its partners – Eco-Me Africa and Butterfly Foundation for Girls – and individual donors and supporters, empowered the adolescent girls of Bosovilla Basic School in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The foundation, among other activities, educated the girls on the importance of focusing on their education, believing in themselves, and working hard toward a brighter future. The girls were also taught how to maintain menstrual hygiene and how to seek support whenever necessary.
The foundation also provided the girls with reusable and environmentally friendly sanitary pads from Eco-Me Africa, as well as self-esteem books from the Butterfly Foundation for Girls to help them manage their menstrual health and hygiene, and boost their self-esteem.

Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the Foundation’s Rural Girl Child Empowerment Program, Ms. Felicia Badu, underscored the importance of education for young girls and admonished them not to be in a hurry to give birth early and abandon their education. She also called on the parents and guardians present at the program to be deeply involved in the growth and development of their children, including their young girls.
The program was graced by the chief and elders of the community, the teachers at the school, and some parents and guardians of the school children. In his closing remarks, Nana Daniel Keteku, the chief of the community, stressed the importance of education for girls and the fact that the girls can achieve anything they set their minds on. Mr. Williams Asamoah, the Assistant Headmaster of the school, thanked the foundation, its partners, and donors on behalf of the entire school for empowering their adolescent girls.

The foundation, together with the beneficiary girls, deeply appreciates the support of the partners and cheerful donors for the success of the program. We remain committed to working with you to empower young people, including young girls in rural communities.
