Akurase Mpuntuo Foundation, Partners Empower Rural Girls at Mim in the Ahafo Region.

On 18th December 2024, Gifty Kinatin Jakper, our mentee pursuing Bachelor of Laws at KNUST on full scholarship from the Mastercard Foundation, empowered 350 rural girls at Mim Senior High School in the Ahafo Region.

The project, dubbed the “My Future, My Choice Project”, was intended to empower the girls to focus on their academics to unleash their full potential, and reduce or end the prevalence of teenage pregnancy in the community.

Gifty and her colleague, Sakina Kusi, another Mastercard Scholar from the community, educated the girls on their sexual and reproductive health and rights, and how to build self-esteem and achieve success in their academics.

The girls were also provided with sanitary pads and books on building self-esteem from our UK-based partner, the Butterfly Foundation for Girls. The book is titled “Becoming Me: A Short Guide on Developing Self-Esteem for Girls”, by Temitope Atoki-Agbaje, the founder.

The girls actively participated in the program, asking questions and making valuable contributions for the benefit of all. They then expressed their deepest appreciation to the organisers and the partners for the impactful project.
